Brad and I did not expand too much on the Easter story with Luke this year. He has had a few meltdowns in the last couple months related to dying. He has drawn some conclusions about death. He has asked Brad and I many times if we are old yet and if we are going to die before him. Sometimes he tells me that he is sad because he will miss us if he can't see us everyday.
The other night I asked him who he wanted to pray for and he told me Zadie (my sister's dog that died a couple months ago). He wanted to pray that she would come back. So explaining to him that Jesus came back might have been a little hard for him to understand this year. We have read some picture books about Easter, but I wasn't going to stress him out even more.
Conversation: Luke's version of the Easter Story
me: "Luke, how was church?"
Luke: "Good"
me: "What was your story about today?"
Luke: "These soldiers killed Jesus with a shovel and put him behind a rock and he came out wrapped in paper and the soldiers moved the rock and Jesus was gone."
me: (Wanting to ask him about this shovel part, but instead...) "So Jesus is alive?"
Luke: "Yes."
